py-bcrypt vs pypi bcryot

Postby gweinberg » Sat Aug 31, 2013 7:10 pm

I want to use bcrypt for hashing passwords. The top hit I get serarching for "python bcrypt" is the py-bcrypt module
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/py-bcrypt/

but there is also a pypi bcrypt module
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/bcrypt/1.0.2

Does anyone know what then difference between them is, and if there are any particular advantages of using one over the other? I'd kind of prefer to use the pypi one since installation/upgrading is easier if I can just use pip, but the fact that py-bcrypt comes up top is search suggests to me that it might have some advantage. It's actively maintained, a new version just came out a week ago.

Looks like they are two different implementations of the same thing by differant authors.
You will have to just try them or compare the source code and find out which you like best.
