Python Forum rules and regulations on GitHub

Postby XndrK » Mon May 26, 2014 8:02 pm

I was looking at GitHub Explore, and in the Policies showcase I found this, which got me wondering if we could actually have a meta policy similar to the one laid out in the README (without all the House and Senate stuff, of course).

The code (as in rules) documents could be written in Markdown.

Of course, there would be a few issues; for example, what if somebody on the forum uses Mercurial or SVN, and wants to contribute? We'll have to talk it over.
Proverbs 26:14 describes me a bit too well.

We could split the "new users Read me" into sections, thus linking new users to a subsection, because lets face, no one reads the entire link. I do think it would be more easy to modify it and easier to link to newbies here, if on github. Although i dont think anyone wants to type it out. Plus everyone would have to agree to link to that as opposed to the global announcement.

If you want to type it up i can create something for it

I would suspect everyone would want git. If you use Mercurial, you would just substitute hd for git in the command. I think they are essentially identical in commands.
we will be moving to on October 1 2016

With regard to what version control: on any project, tools are selected, and people have to live with them. I use Java at work, and I don't use Python (or Jython) where I could because it would be awful for them to support excessive tooling. In the same sense, if Git is used, there's no good reason to try to support everything else.
Due to the reasons discussed here we will be moving to on October 1, 2016.

This forum will be locked down and no one will be able to post/edit/create threads, etc. here from thereafter. Please create an account at the new site to continue discussion.

Yes we could put our forum rules on git hub to allow every body to issue pull requests, etc.

But the same users could also mention their doubts right here in the forums themselves.

I don't see any benefit to changing what we currently have. Please elaborate otherwise.
