Hi,

Why not add a section for new users to say hi when they first join?

Maybe, but the only problem would be that the potential spammers could use it to use up one of there 3 moderated posts.

I don't know, this might be a good idea.

It's not like the spammers will post there to get the 3 posts they need.
They don't read the new users topic anyway.
It's also possible that the spam is automated.

And even if they use it like that, we can easily remove the spam and their account once they start spamming.

I'd like o hear what other people think about it though.

Other boards have one and they also take measures to stop spam very successfully.
I just thought it would be a nice addition to the board.
Not the end of the world if the idea doesn't get adopted :)

Most of the spam will most likely be automated and you will always need methods to combat spam. I don't see how adding a new category to the board will increase the amount of spam posted.

I think it would create unneccesary clutter. The old forum had ~12(?) subsections which was already a bit much imho. Adding a "hello" section would add yet another subsection and more clutter. New users could use the bar / just stuff for introducing themselves.

I am a new user i just got my account today and personaly i think this is a brilliant idea as people could put in all sorts of things primarily their programming background if any ie. previous languages or previous attempts at a language. Also they could put why they want to learn python or why they need help with it. The hello section could also bring the forum together as a community I would be greatful if this hapens but

I think it is because we are use to the "Bar" being the place were we shoot the sh*t about anything. Of course new people may not know that is the location to do so

I've seen a number of people with this in their signatures. Some day, I'll even get around to updating mine again.
