Sig-line Spam Removal

Sig-line Spam Removal

Postby micseydel » Tue Mar 05, 2013 8:56 pm

So, I look at new users frequently and many of them have spam as their website on the forum profile, and I've been diligent about keeping up with it (some of it is iffy and is still there, but there shouldn't be any porn, hand bags or Dr. Dre headphones). What I noticed recently is that the page memberlist.php?g=7&mode=group is good for finding website profile spam, that page doesn't show signatures, and signatures can still have spam.

I'd like to write a script to go through the members list, go the new user's pages, and notify through standard out or something which ones do so that admins could check out and perhaps delete those users. I've been busy enough recently that I haven't done it, but if someone else wants to do it, I'll happily do the manual work of deleting the profiles.

While I'm here, if anyone sees websites they think are obvious spam that I missed, you can post a link to the user here and I'll take care of it.

Well, Google et al. scrape forums, including ours, and they make use of the information. I'm not sure if us having spam reduces the respect Google and other search engines have for the forum. Further, I think it looks better for the forum if we don't have garbage, even if there's no direct practical affect.

Google doesn't get to see the user profiles, only registered users do.
The same goes for the member listing pages.

The only way google or a guest would see sig-line spam is if the user posts, but if they're really a spammer, their post probably won't be approved anyway.
