Hi, my name's Mikey. I'm 17, and I just started Python.
I wanted to learn Python initially because I wanted to learn how to hack (this definition of hacking: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html
I watched BSG, Transcended Man, and really thought about the future a lot. Having to decide what I wanted to do in my life without any withstanding commitments, I needed to start from scratch. I've always been a lazy learner, and I dream of integrating the internet with the mind. I plan on transferring from community college to UCB to learn more about how to do this, but in the meantime, I wanted to learn how computers work. How do i manipulate code? What are transistors? Is binary intrinsic? What challenges does the world need to overcome in order to achieve the things that crazy people like Ray Kurzweil and I talk about?
To learn how to program, I have been following this guy's advice: http://norvig.com/21-days.html
I want to learn at least half a dozen languages, read code and write code, but I don't even know anyone who programs. I have no mentor and no idea what I should write. If anyone wants to help me learn Python, I'd really appreciate that. I'm looking for specific programming tasks, good code to read, someone who I can ask questions, someone who knows what I should write and what I should read.
If you want to help me, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for this thread so I could welcome myself to the forum.
