explain your username

Postby metulburr » Mon May 05, 2014 9:30 pm

i just wanted to come up with some decent handle one day. All lowercase, no special characters was my only goal. At the time, I was doing carpentry and cutting a piece of metal at work, and thus i came up with "metal burr", minus the space and changed the "a" to a "u" for some uniqueness. Low and behold 7 years later i still use it as my handle. At this point i have just grown accustomed to it.

Mine is
Code: Select all
username = firstname[:3] + lastname

It used to be "mikeseydel" but when I was 15 I moved out my mom's apartment and she deleted the account out of spite. Given that "mic" can be pronounced "Mike" as in "mic is short for microphone" I was happy with it, so I've had it about 8 years now. I have used verboseydel in a few places as well, which is a similar name thing but includes a word that describes me well. But for the most part I'm not so anonymous.

Mine is a Japanese katakana bastardization of my last name メキレ.
I have considered changing it as it doesn't really reflect my current interests or personality, but meh...

Crimson King -> Main antagonist in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, pretty straight forward (My avatar is an image of him)

As a sidenote: King Crimson is the name a of rockband from where Stephen King drew inspiration for this character and the name of one of their records (In the Court of the Crimson King) appears in another of his books (Insomnia)

Darth Vader was given to me by master (Sidious), but my real name is Anakin Skywalker. You can call me Ani, if you want to.

Mine is a de-voweled version of my nickname and the first letter of my last name.

You'll also find me in a lot of places as 4of92000.

Mine is coming from Tony Stark. Fiction character from Marvel Comics also known as the "Iron Man". I choose that because that character has every skill that i want to have. I use it almost everywhere because it's like a self motivation for me :P

On that note, Stark,

Stark is German for strong. Just thought I would toss that out there.

Yeah they died so quickly at the beginning, so few left of them. But please. Father of the house is Sean Bean. What did we expect? :D

I'm surprised at the lack of (well, I've not found any yet) Monty Python references in usernames here.

Mine will need no explanation to MPFC fans, although my name isn't Arthur Jackson, and I have no sheds at all.

I thought there would be at least a few Gumbies here, or a Spiny Norman? No Anne Elk? Smoke-too-much? Biggus D***us?

A lot of us use global usernames across the web. My username stays the same regardless of the forum content. Java forums, c++ forums, python forums, linux forums, steam, doesn't matter, iits always metulburr. So it does not make sense to change my identification based on content.

Ichabod was my pledge name at Delta Sigma Phi, and it stuck. That was back in the 90s when I first started going online. However, the user name "ichabod" is usually taken on most services by the time I get there, so I tack on 801. The 801 comes from the Manzanera/Eno band The 801s. Me and my friends were into Eno and conspiracy theories back in high school, and evolved one about the number 801.
