porting to BB Playbook?

Postby Hirazi Blue » Mon Sep 09, 2013 10:45 am

Hi,
Here’s the deal. I am currently using a QNX-based Blackberry Playbook which sports a crippled Python 3.1 installed on the device but obviously not meant for public consumption (hence crippled). My idea/hope would be to add some functionality to this crippled Python to enable the possibility to do some “on board” scripting. Scripting on an external machine (i.e. coding on a PC and transferring the script as an app has already been made possible by third-party developers and to this end PySide has been ported to the Blackberry Playbook), but personally I would love to be able to do some actual coding on the device itself. To achieve this goal I think I’d primarily need two things: a GUI toolkit (as there is none present at the moment, apart from the aforementioned port of PySide) and a compatible IDE. But (and that’s quite a big but), this shouldn’t involve too much actual porting of dll’s/so’s, as I am a mere intermediate Python programmer, who so far successfully avoided getting involved in C++. Not knowing enough C++ porting something would seem way too daunting a task. Anyone here with an idea how to proceed? Maybe an easily portable IDE based on PySide?
Thanks in advance for your reply!
;)

I hope this isn't too specialized for this specific board.
If it is, please tell me so, so I can cross-post it on some other Python forum.
No hard feelings, in that case, obviously...

Yeah, this looks very specialized.

Thanks for your opinion, I'll be cross-posting it elsewhere then. Now I only have to find a suitable place to do so...
