Moderation Suggestions

Postby KevinD » Fri Feb 08, 2013 8:34 pm

OK, admins, we need to set up some rules:

1. No sig-line links
2. Limited number of links in a post.
3. Maybe even new users have their posts moderated?

Yeah, I agree some things need to be done.

I've done what I could/knew hot to.
I believe new users' posts now require moderation, they're not allowed to have signatures, and a few more things.

Btw, are you KDoiron?
nvm, saw your email...

I have a MyBB Forum and one of the plugins allowed a one click spam removal for one person. Not sure if PhpBB has a plugin like that or not, or if it was installed before. But it allowed an easy spam removal, where one click deletes all posts from that user, bans that username, bans any IP address that ever logged into that user, deletes all topics from that user. It made it nice to quickly remove spammers. But currently it seems more of a hassle now as there is nothing like that for default phpBB apparently. Mods and admins have to delete/ban user, ban IP address(s), and delete their topic individually. Or did I miss something in the mod menus that does this?

Not sure about phpbb regarding plugins though, but jkbbwr would have to install the plugin as he is the only one that has access to server files.

I guess I will also mention this in the forums, not just the IRC, but wouldnt it be good if one trusted person also has server file access in case of jkbbwr MIA?

There's an option to delete the user and all his posts, but I think it's only accessible through the Administration Control Panel.

Just go to the user's profile and click Administer user next to the username.
That will get you there.

its a little diff than i was imagining

Another note: maybe we could remake the old topics, instead of just beginners and advance? Then if the old DB is unrecovered, we are all set. That would suck though if the old DB is gone.

Sure, go ahead and do what you thinks need to be done.
See, you do want to do stuff you can't as a moderator.

not important stuff, but:

1) currently no favicon.ico set, but that would be jkbbwr's, as it needs access to server files
2) I am not sure about you guys but i think the "phpBB creating communities" logo is ugly.

after doing some research, i think that is also a replacement of server file images.
For phpBB3: replace styles/subSilver/imageset/site_logo.gif with your logo

of course i beleive that is the entire header, not just "phpBB creating communities" words. There might be something in ACP to change the words.

No, it's literally just those words.
The "python-forum.org" and "The forum for python users to chat" can be changed in the ACP.

But you need access to the server files for any bigger changes.
