Unzipping python3.1 error

Hi im trying to unzip python3.1 package and im getting this error?

tar: Python-3.1/build.pc/python: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Python-3.1/build.arm/python: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Python-3.1/build.arm/libpython3.1.so.1.0: Cannot hard link to `Python-3.1/build.arm/libpython3.1.so': Operation not permitted
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

Im new to linux and im not sure what todo?

You probably want to use your OS's system for distributing new packages, not download / extract them yourself (like would be done on Windows). I am sure they have a flavor of python 2 and 3 readily prepared for you right there.

This python package is meant for an Embedded computer running Linux 2.6.9.

My instructions where to first extract, and then ftp over to the device and install?

Do you think it would make any difference if i tried to extract on the device?
